Tips for Writing a Resume For Veterans

Tips for Writing a Resume For VeteransWriting a resume for veterans can be a little more challenging than most people think. This is not just because of the sheer size of the military, but also the fact that there are now millions of veterans all across the United States. The United States of America has been at war since the days of the Revolutionary War. Now it is our turn to take care of veterans.First of all, what does it mean to veterans? It simply means that they are veterans of war. You are either a veteran of the Vietnam era or have served in the U.S. Navy or Air Force. One of the biggest problems for veterans is their inability to find work.Veterans who do find work often receive reduced pay as compared to civilians. Their future employment opportunities may also be contingent upon their job skills and previous military experience. This is because most employers see veterans as tough workers and those that cannot follow directions or do things well can be disqualified. In man y cases, veterans are given a lot of flexibility in how they dress. They can wear any uniform, including that of the military. However, if you do not feel comfortable wearing the uniform, you can also opt to wear civilian clothing. If you do not have an education background or have been in the military for less than five years, you should be prepared to explain this in your resume. Be honest with yourself when answering these questions. Most employers will not hire veterans that do not have a high school diploma or GED.Another way to explain your military experience is to say that you are a 'veteran of the army.' If you havea military certification you should mention this in your resume. Remember that you do not have to have been a soldier to be able to prove your military experience. Finally, if you have more than one piece of military service on your resume, you will need to tell the employer which service you completed. Again, this is where honesty is necessary. If you have served in a position such as a Marine, you should state that on your resume.Veterans are often faced with two difficult challenges. The first is proving their service, and the second is proving that they are qualified for the job. Resume writing for veterans will help you accomplish both of these goals.
